My Art Story
“They thought I was a Surrealist, but I wasn’t. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality.”

Hola, I’m Yazmín García, a Mexican visual artist based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I create artwork for the eldest daughters, the dreamers, and the cycle-breakers.
I was born in Guadalajara, México, and immigrated to the United States when I was two years old. Growing up between two cultures shaped the way I see the world and eventually became the heart of my work. For a long time, I searched for where I belonged. Through art, I realized I didn't have to choose between one identity or the other; I could honor both.
As an immigrant, mother, and artist, I create from my own experiences with healing, identity, mental health, and community. Many of my paintings begin with a feeling or a lesson I wish someone had told me sooner. Sometimes they're inspired by my childhood, the women who raised me, curanderismo, Mexican traditions, or the quiet strength it takes to keep moving forward. Other times they're simply a reminder to slow down, breathe, drink some water, and be a little gentler with ourselves.
My work is rooted in hope. I don't create artwork about pretending life is perfect. I create artwork about finding light after difficult seasons and honoring the people we become because we chose to heal. I believe healing isn't something we do once. It's something we choose over and over again, and I hope my work can be a small reminder that you're not alone in that journey.
Most of my work is created with acrylic paint and mixed media, blending symbolism, nature, and everyday moments into stories that invite viewers to pause and reflect. Butterflies often represent transformation, flowers remind us of resilience, and the sun symbolizes hope. Every symbol has a purpose because every story deserves to be told with intention.
Community has become one of the most meaningful parts of my practice. Beyond creating artwork, I love bringing people together through exhibitions, workshops, and conversations about healing, cultura, and belonging. I believe art has the power to make people feel seen, start difficult conversations, and remind us that our stories matter, no matter how big or small they may seem.
Over the past few years, I've had the honor of exhibiting my work throughout Southern Nevada, including at the Consulate of México in Las Vegas and the Clark County Government Center, where I received Best in Show in 2026. Every opportunity reminds me of the little girl who loved to draw and dreamed of becoming an artist, even when she wasn't sure she was good enough.
Thank you so much for being here and supporting my work. Whether you've collected a piece, shared my art with a friend, stopped by an exhibition, or simply found comfort in something I've created, it truly means more than you know.
I hope you leave here feeling reminded that healing takes time, your story matters, and you're doing way better than you think.
