A New Chapter: Life in Death Exhibition

From my first exhibition with Ojo de Coatlicue to my return with La Casita Azul, every show has felt like another step in my journey as an artist. Now, I’m honored to be part of a new chapter, Life in Death, at the Winchester-Dondero Cultural Center.

For this exhibition, I created Canto de Cempasúchil (Song of the Marigold), a piece inspired by Día de los Muertos traditions. The marigold, or cempasúchil, is more than a flower; it’s a guide, a bridge between worlds, leading our ancestors back to us with its bright color and scent.

In this artwork, I wanted to honor the beauty of remembrance. It speaks to the love that never fades, the connections that live on even when our loved ones have passed, and the cultural rituals that keep us grounded.

This exhibition feels different. Where my first show was full of nerves, and my second was about sharing my personal immigration story, this third opportunity feels like an expansion. It’s about honoring the collective of our ancestors, our traditions, and our community.

I’m entering this exhibition with gratitude for how far I’ve come. From donating my very first piece to involving my daughter in the second, to now creating art that reflects generational memory, every step has shaped me.

Life in Death is more than an exhibition title; it’s a reminder that our art, culture, and stories live on long after we’re gone. Being part of this show is both humbling and empowering. It gives me space to honor those who came before me and to share that love with others through my art.

As I prepare for opening night, I think back to that first nervous walk into the gallery. I had no idea what to expect. Now, a year later, I step forward knowing that this journey isn’t just about me, it’s about the voices I carry, the cultura I represent, and the healing that flows through my art.

I’m deeply honored to share Canto de Cempasúchil at the Life in Death exhibition. Thank you to everyone who has supported my journey so far. I can’t wait to see where the next chapter of Sagrario Arte Studio takes us.
