2025- My Immigrant Family Exhibition

Clark County Government Center Rotunda Gallery & Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas

La Casita Azul is a tribute to the invisible weight carried by immigrant workers, the ones who build homes here while dreaming of the one they left behind.

As a first-generation Mexican immigrant, I created this piece to honor my father, a construction worker in Las Vegas for over 30 years, and every parent who sacrificed their own dreams so their children could have a future.

The artwork shows a construction worker resting, caught in a quiet moment of sleep during his break. Behind him, clouds begin to form, soft and dreamlike, revealing a house slowly taking shape in the sky: a small blue casita.

It is my abuelita's home in Mexico, a symbol of sacrifice and connection across borders. It represents the emotional duality so many immigrants live with: building a life in one country while holding onto the memory of another.

Two large cactuses next to the home, standing tall, much like our people. The ground beneath the house is rough and rocky, a nod to the unpaved roads of rural Mexico, where foundations are built not on concrete but on struggle, memory, and grit.

The blue of the house symbolizes both peace and yearning; it’s the calm of returning home in a dream, and the ache of knowing that dream remains out of reach.

This piece reflects the immigrant story: a life split between two worlds, two homes, and two hearts. And through it, I say thank you to my parents. Thank you for giving me the chance to dream through art.
