Story Behind the Work.
This piece began as a tribute to my grandfather, who passed away from Covid on October 15th, 2020, a date etched into my memory because it was also my birthday. He loved two things deeply: his roosters and his grandchildren.
The four roses represent his children, and the sunflowers reflect the joy and love he had for his grandchildren. They also form a bouquet, a final gift of beauty for his journey.
The day after he passed, his favorite rooster also left this world. That image has stayed with me, a reminder that he wasn’t alone, his spirit companion, his Alebrije, was there with him.
Over time, this piece has grown into something bigger than my own loss. It has become a dedication to all elders who pass far from home, carrying love, stories, and traditions across borders and generations.
