The Healing Behind This Piece:
I grew up believing that cempasúchil flowers carry the memories of our ancestors. Their color, their scent, they guide our loved ones home. When I created “Canto de Cempasúchil,” I wanted to bring that feeling to life through a rooster made entirely of flowers.
The rooster symbolizes awakening, pride, and the announcement of life. Covering him in cempasúchil petals felt like a way to honor the beauty that lives between life and death. It became a song, a visual prayer for the people we’ve lost and the love that continues.
This piece is for anyone who has lost someone and still feels their presence like sunlight. Even in grief, love blooms.
