Story Behind the Work:
This piece is a tribute to my father, a construction worker who, like so many others, left behind the comfort of his homeland to build a better future for his family. In this scene, he rests while dreaming of La Casita Azul, the home in Mexico that lives forever in his heart.
Caught between two worlds, his body is here, laboring in the U.S., but his soul is rooted in the land he left behind. This painting honors that quiet, often invisible sacrifice, one that fuels the immigrant dream.
With bold colors and hand-painted details, I honor my parents’ courage. They gave up their own dreams so I could pursue mine. As a first-generation Mexican-American artist, I carry that legacy with pride and use my voice to uplift the stories of our people.
This artwork is for the dreamers, the workers, the madres y padres who cross borders with nothing but faith and love.
It’s a reminder that immigrants are the backbone of this country, not a burden, but a blessing.
Gracias, Mamá y Papá. I hope to make you proud.
